NQ Senior Championships Return as Saints EOIs Open for 2026

Townsville Touch Football is calling for expressions of interest from players, coaches and referees for the 2026 senior representative season.

The call comes ahead of an exciting year for the Townsville Saints programme, with the NQ Senior Championships set to make its long-awaited return to the representative calendar.

The event has not been held since 2019 and will return in 2026 at Queens Park, Townsville, on 12–13 September.

With the QLD State Cup to follow from 27–29 November at Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct, the NQ Senior Championships will provide an important opportunity for players, coaches and referees to come together, represent Townsville, and build towards one of Queensland’s major senior representative events.

TTF Representative Coordinator Cherrie Pierce said the return of the NQ Senior Championships was an exciting step forward for the senior representative pathway in North Queensland.

“The NQ Senior Championships returning to the calendar is a fantastic opportunity for our players, coaches and referees,” Pierce said.

“Having the event back in 2026, and being able to host it at Queens Park, gives our people the chance to represent Townsville at home and build towards the QLD State Cup later in the year.”

Expressions of interest are now open for players, coaches and referees who wish to be considered for the 2026 Townsville Saints senior representative season.

Players can submit an EOI to be considered for Townsville Saints teams, while coaches can submit separate EOIs for the NQ Senior Championships and QLD State Cup.

Referees can also submit an EOI to be considered for the 2026 senior representative referee squad, which will support referee appointments to both events and provide focused coaching and development throughout the season.

Pierce said the representative programme was about creating a clear and positive pathway for Townsville members.

“The Saints programme is our senior representative pathway, and we want to see as many interested players, coaches and referees as possible putting their hand up,” Pierce said.

“These EOIs help us plan properly, identify interested people early, and make sure we are giving our members the best possible opportunity to be involved.”

The senior representative referee squad will be delivered in partnership between TTF and TTRA, with a focus on targeted coaching, development workshops and preparation for representative-level appointments.

Pierce said referees were an important part of Townsville’s representative programme.

“Our referees are a key part of the Townsville representative pathway, and this squad will give them access to more focused development as they prepare for regional and state events,” Pierce said.

“It is a great opportunity for referees who want to keep improving, challenge themselves, and take the next step in their officiating journey.”

For TTF-registered members, the Townsville Saints programme is the senior representative pathway for regional and state events.

The Saints EOI process gives players, coaches and referees the opportunity to be considered for Townsville teams, coaching appointments and referee development opportunities at the NQ Senior Championships and QLD State Cup.

Whether members are looking to take the next step as a player, continue their representative journey, contribute as a coach, or develop further as a referee, TTF and TTRA are encouraging interested members to submit an EOI before the closing date.

EOIs close on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
